KHULA - Intercultural Arts Social Enterprise, Arts Groups

KHULA  - meaning 'Growth'  - is an intercultural arts social enterprise, set up to promote, develop and enhance sustainable, reciprocal links between arts groups in Africa to offer quality intercultural experiences in the UK .

We work with schools and other organisations in the UK to provide opportunities for intercultural exchange through participation in dance, movement and music as well as performer-audience dialogue.
We also deliver relatively small-scale but tangible and sustainable benefits to developing Africa-based artists, providing quality work opportunities that enable these benefits to be returned to the artists' home communities.

KHULA aims to provide practical support based on strong experience of performance tours of the UK and Fair Trade principals, with an emphasis on dance, music and theatre skills.

KHULA worked with the Mpopoma Dance Ensemble, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and worked on their UK tours in 2004 and 2005. As part of this they featured in the Sheffield Children's Festival from links established by KHULA with the Festival Director, at the G8 Home Affairs Ministers' meeting in 2005 and as part of Africa 05 at the British Museum.

KHULA has developed strong experience in both the performance and administrative aspects of its work. It has a successful record of Work Permit applications for both individuals and groups and has supported a range of workshop and performance formats, both with solo artists and collaborative projects with a number of groups.

We also have effective experience in publicity and promotion of artists and their work.

KHULA gratefully acknowledges support from The UnLtd Millennium Awards Scheme.
