In 2005 we were grateful to Simunye for securing funding and support for the Umngcele project from The South Yorkshire Community Foundation Local Network Fund and Arts Council England
We were delighted to be asked to work with a local school and then perform jointly for the Home Affairs and Security Ministers' Meeting held in Sheffield in June 2005. It was an excellent opportunity for us to show our skills and work , showing what Africans can do for themselves and the benefits we can offer to young people in the First world. It formed part of the overall G8 event this summer which had the theme of Africa at its heart. Pictures of our performance are in the gallery.
We have at last posted images and information from our highly successful 2005 tour. Please go and have a look in our Gallery. Very sadly we are unable to offer the KHULA Dance Company in 2006 due to funding issues. Tongesayi will be delivering the planned programme of workshops in schools and other organisations but we will sorely miss the energy and enthusiasm of his young team . .
In the meantime, THANK YOU to everyone we worked with so successfully this year - your enthusiasm and energy gave us all more energy ourselves!
The third annual Abangani Arts Festival took place in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe 10-14 December 2005, with various local and visiting artists. As always it was a varied and exciting programme which this year moved between a number of township and city Centre venues in Bulawayo, to much acclaim..
Mpopoma hosted their second annual Arts Festival at Matshobane township hall from 10-12 December 2004, delighting around 500 local people over the three evenings. With a theme of township dance and music the hall pulsed to the beat of popular music whilst a number of local groups showcased the township dance styles so popular amongst young and old.
Mpopoma successfully completed their second UK tour in August 2005.
